Mod Installation FAQ

This FAQ is for all www.youtube.com/BeastDud mod installation videos
(including
and

FAQ:

Q: The title says x.x.x not 1.1.0!
A: Yes, calm down, that's true. These two tutorials were made with earlier versions of Minecraft, but the installation process is exactly the same, so there would be no point in making a new video for every new patch.

Q: I got black screen/crash/the mod(s) didn't work for me
A: Try "cleaning your minecraft.jar" before modding by going to your Minecraft launcher > "Options" > "Force update" > "Done" > login.
    Also make sure the mod(s) and MCPatcher* are up to date (with the version of Minecraft you are using). Some mods have "unique" installations, so be sure to always read the "Installation" part on every mod's official Minecraft Forums page.

Q: I downloaded the mods, but didn't get any .zip files
A: It is common for OS' and browsers to have a "decompress on download" feature, but most of them ask you on download wether you want it to perform this action - when you download, be sure to choose "Save".
    If it's too late and you've already decompressed the file (with no .zip/.rar files left), you can always re-compress them with 7-zip (Windows) or Unarchiver (Mac). <- compress the files INSIDE the folder.

Q: Why didn't Optifine didn't work?
A: Optifine has some features in common with MCPatcher, so if you want to install Optifine, be sure to "uncheck" the following in MCPatcher: HD Textures, HD Fonts, and Better Grass.

Q: Can I install x (paste mod name here) with this?
A: Yes, indeed you can! Just remember that some mods have unique installation processes, such as placing some files in the minecraft (folder) > mods folder. Some mods also depend on one or several others. <- always read the "Installation" part of the mod's official thread.

More info:
- Some mods are incompatible with each other, which means that when installed together, they might crash your minecraft/corrupt your saves. Mods such as Modloader, Forge and Vault enhance the compatibility between mods (some mods even require one or more of these, but this is explained on the mods' official Minecraft Forums thread page).

Minecraft Mods List [Single Player]

This list aims at including as many of the Minecraft SP (Single Player) mods that exist.
However, only the good ones will make it at first.

[MP] -> Multiplayer support
[MP*] -> Has/is a multiplayer version
[ML] -> Requires ModLoader
[ML*] -> Supports ModLoader

AllCraft - Download - AllCraft is a mod that lets you craft unobtainable blocks without inventory hacking (mod, plugins, hacks) or using /give commands (server side). It currently lets you craft Fire, Water, Lava, Mossy Cobblestone, all Ores (as Ore Blocks), Bedrock and much more. The planned recipes are all the Spawn Eggs (for Spiders, Zombies, Sheeps, etc.). More info

AudioMod [MP] - Download - AudioMod supports three more audio file types and adds the ability to add custom music. It is often required, or at least supported when it comes to the most advanced mods. Its creator, Risugami is also the author of the popular ModLoader  More info

AutoSwitch [ML] / [MP] - Download - AutoSwitch is a mod that automatically switches to the correct tool when you mine a block, or to the best weapon when you hit a mob or a player. It will also switch back to whatever you had equipped before the action. It also has dozens of other features and key configurations. Requires ModLoader.  More info

Death Chest - Download Death Chest removes the inconvenience of losing your items 5min after dying; as long as you have a chest in your inventory, the mod will place it on your dying spot (or the nearest possible block) and place as many items in it as possible. Items that were in your crafting slot (and the excess that doesn't fit in the chest) will still be dropped.   More info

Minecraft Forge [ML] / [MP] - Download - Minecraft Forge is what some could say an "enhanced version of ModLoader", and like ModLoader, it reduces incompatibilities with mods using it. It is mostly used/needed with more advanced mods. Requires ModLoader. More info

ModLoader [MP] Download - ModLoader is the most used mod out there, because of its utility as a mod manager and organizer. Its greatest feature is to help eliminate conflicts between two or more mods, which makes it extremely helpful for many mods' users. Many mods require (or have more features with) the use of it, but most newbie mods don't have support for it due to it requiring additional coding in the mod. Doesn't require ModLoader, duh!  More info

OptiFine [MP] - Download Optifine adds the support for HD textures, and also allows the in-game change of texture pack (no need to go back to title screen). It also adds lots of options for better looks and performance (doubling the FPS is not uncommon). Some of the additional features include (but are not limited to): chunk loading control, Better Grass, Zoom, Far View, Clear Water and Smooth FPS.  More info

Rei's Minimap [ML] / [MP] - Download - Rei's Minimap is the most popular minimap mod for Minecraft. It adds a minimap into the corner of your screen with different zoom options, configurable waypoints and much more.  More info

Timber! [ML] - Download - Timber! makes woodcutting more realistic by making all the logs that are higher in a tree break when when you mine one with any axe - if it's the lowest one, you can mine the whole tree at once. Requires ModLoader. More info

TooManyItems [ML*] / [MP] - Download - TooManyItems must be one of the most popular mods ever created for Minecraft, and not without reason. Its main purpose is to be an "inventory hack", by giving the ability to get and delete any items (including mod ones) from a nice looking enhanced inventory interface. It doesn't require ModLoader, but needs it to work at its fullest. More info

This list is (and will always be) incomplete. However, we will try to our best and
add as many mods as possible. If you know (/have made) a good mod that is not
in the list, feel free to share it in the comments section below.
